Nov. 24-28

 Here are some updates and highlights from the week!

  • Thank you for coming to parent-teacher conferences. As always, it helps us to better undertand your child and keep that school-home connection strong.
  • We are learning the flight museum early that anticipated due to some bussing. This doesn't affect anyone really, but here is the updated times from the museum.
    • Program #1: 10:00 - 11:45
    • Lunch: 11:45 - 12:15
    • Program #2: 12:15 - 2:00
  • Please remember to send an easy lunch, snack and water for the trip on Wednesday.
Social Studies:
We are learning about the beginnings of civiliations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China and Greece (there are others as well that will be referenced over the year). Ask your chid what these terms mean to provoke some discussion.

Writing:
Students are engages in procedural writing which will connect to the scientific method and conducting experients related to flight and buoyancy in science. They are ensuring steps are clear and transition words are used to communicate procedural steps.

Math:
We have started and will continue for a while, adding and subracting numbers up to one million and as small as thousandths to solve problems including those with money.

Wellness:



Students are reviewing the four zones of regulation, feelings and behaviours related to each zone, and personal strategies to get out of certain zones to get back to the green zone (the most ideal, focussed zone for learning). For instance.....exercising in the classroom brings up our enegy levels for learning.

Reading:
Grade five curriculum is centered around decoding multisyllabic words, defining new complex vocabulary all while comprehending what is read. We continue to read a variety of text to develop these skills incuding short articles, short stories and non-fiction books with pictures.

Word Work:
Students played a variety of literacy games to improve their vocabulary. As well, we had a guest teacher join us and teach us how to use the sound wall to learn how to spell multisyllabic words.
