Here are some learning highlights from the week and concepts to review with your child at home.
Writing
We campleted another procedural writing task which was self-chosen. We had topics from how to make sandwich, to how to tie your shoes which students them edited together. We plan to do one last writing piece next week for assessment.
Math
Students continue to add and subtract numbers into the millions and as small as thousandths to solve problems. They are learning the standard algoritm, as well as how to use the number line and other mental math strategies to complete problems both precisely and using estimation.
Please practice some of these skills at home with your child for review.
Students continue to learn about the geographical features in various ancient civilations and how the geography supported growth and development. We look forward to learning about the features of Ancient China and Ancient Rome next week, and then debating which geographic features are the best for a civiliation to develop.
Reading
Students continue to work on personalized reading skills while in their smaller reading groups during our literacy block in the morning. As well, students are reading a variety of text accross the curriculum, learning how to identify the main idea and well as important details. Below is an example of a short passage about Ancient Greece and the geographic features that students identified.
