  Hello grade 5 families, REMINDER -  FRIDAY FOR STUDENTS - PD DAY Here are some learning highlights from this week! Math Continued learning on Stem and Leaf Plots, Dot Plots, Mode and Frequency. Students brought home some math today. Health We had another visit for our Restart Program.  This week we learned about conflict, communication styles: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive and assertive.  Ask your child about the spaghetti and playdough challenge. Art Last Friday we enjoyed critiquing a famous Canadian artist: Doris McCarthy. Literacy Students reviewed spelling plurals, read with me in small groups focussing on these comprehension strategies: summarizing, connecting and predicting, and got feedback on their first story.  As well, they are writing postcards from an ancient civilization of their choice that demonstrates their understanding of the geography. Hello grade 5 families, REMINDER - NO SCHOOL NEXT FRIDAY FOR STUDENTS - PD DAY Here are some learning highlights from this week! Math Students are learning about Statistics and Data. Some new vocabulary they should be able to talk about with you are: Stem and Leaf Plot, Dot Plot, Mode and Frequency. Science All of the grade 5s are becoming familiar with the Scientific Method. While they conduct experiments about buoyancy, they learned about "Controlled Variables, Analysis and Conclusion". Health We had another visit for our Restart Program. This week we learned about vulnerability,  empathy vs. sympathy, and how people's feelings can be different in different situations. Ask your child about the oven mitts and the plastic wrap ball. Maker Space Last Friday we enjoyed exploring and creating with the MakerSpace materials.
