 Hello grade 5 families,

REMINDER -  FRIDAY FOR STUDENTS - PD DAY

Here are some learning highlights from this week!

Math

Continued learning on Stem and Leaf Plots, Dot Plots, Mode and Frequency. Students brought home some math today.

Health

We had another visit for our Restart Program. This week we learned about conflict, communication styles: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive and assertive. Ask your child about the spaghetti and playdough challenge.

Art

Last Friday we enjoyed critiquing a famous Canadian artist: Doris McCarthy.

Literacy

Students reviewed spelling plurals, read with me in small groups focussing on these comprehension strategies: summarizing, connecting and predicting, and got feedback on their first story. As well, they are writing postcards from an ancient civilization of their choice that demonstrates their understanding of the geography.

Welcome to Grade 5!

Welcome !  We are so excited to be starting the 2025-2026 school year with you!  This year, our whole school will continue to use Blogger to make regular agenda posts.     To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or iPad, or tablet.  We hope this makes communication between home and school easier and opens great conversations between you and your children .     The CBE and Mrs. Brinson will be communicating information to you through School Messenger email s titled , ‘Northern Lights News for ___ ”. Important Updates Sept 11 - Terry Fow Fundraising begins Sept 18 - Terry Fox Run Sept 24 - Youthlink Presentation for grade 5 Sept 26 - Orange Shirt Day Sept 29 and 30 - No school Oct 2 - Picture day This is what we got up to this week! Organizing for literacy centers including: BUDDY READING, INDEPENDENT READING, LITERACY GAMES MATH - LEARNING how to build read, write and understand BIG and SMALL numbers up to 1 million (1 000 000) and as small as 1 thousandth (0.001) Please review this with your kids at home. Our next step will be to add and subract numbers within this range. P.E. - Did you know that we have P.E. everyday Monday to Thursday? We continue to work on collaborative team building and following expected routines in the gym with Mr. Newton. Have a wonderful warm weekend.
