January 5-9

 Welcome Back!

Here are our learning highlights this week. It has been so warm that we started our time back outside in Circle and talked about what we noticed in winter and what we are thankful for in nature.

Math

This week students practiced addtion and subtraction, and reviewed coordinate geometry during math stations with their peers.

We are also still working on addition and subtraction (0.001 - 1 000 000) to solve problems including those with money. We will be having a SWYK (Show What You Know) either later this week or early next week before moving onto Data and Statistics. Please ask your child about math and how you can support them. Questions for practice could be, "There are three new laptop carts in the school and each cart is valued at $4675.85. What is the total cost of the carts? If the school received a donation of $10 000, how much money did the school pay for the new laptop carts?"

Literacy

We have begun new literacy centers focussing on writing emails with proper formating, typing practice, and word sorts for spelling patterns learning. Students also wrote about their winter break and shared their experiences with peers. We look forward to story writing next.

Social Studies

In Social Studies student learned about the the challenges that the geography presented in different ancient civilizations. Ask your child about all of the natural disasters they learned about, and the adaptations and modifications that people did to survive.

Take care!
