 Hello Families,  Next week and the following, we are looking forward to a visit from a Knowledge Keeper  Chantal Chagnon. Stay tuned for pictures from her visit with all of the NLS community. This is what we got up to this week. SCIENCE We viewed and celebrated our peer's Science Fair projects, and there were two presenters from 5B who contributed a project as well. GreaT Job Akorede and Jiana!   We also recognized and celebrated PINK Shirt Day with a school-wide assembly, drawing and writing tasks!   Math is still long division and multidigit multiplication. In P.E. students started learning about floor hockey. We decided to have some fun with Ms. Docherty and were doing buddy reading and independent reading, pretending we were on the C-Train. WRITING - We wrote a lot of proper sentences. Sentences have a subject and a predicate! Compound and complex sentences had conjunctions. Happy long weekend and Valentine's Day weekend to those who celebrate! Here were the highlights from this week. MATH - Students are reviewing multi-digit multiplication and division from grade 4 (345 x 2 and 982 / 2). This is in preparation for 2 x 2 (and 3) digit multiplication and divisibility rules for grade 5. Check out all of the vertical spaces that we are allowed to write on for practice (windows and whiteboard walls). SOCIAL STUDIES - We started learning about innovations from the different ancient civilizations. We look forward to learning about the different government and social systems that existed in some of the ancient civilizations in preparation for a group research and presentation project. P.E.  We have been super engaged in the Olympics! Mr. Newton has put together some fabulous relay races resembling many of the Olympic sports.
