March 30 - April 2
Hi parents and grade 5 students!
Firstly, welcome back from spring break. Secondly, thank you to those who joined for student-involved conferences and took part your child's learning. Lastly, here are some important updates and photos from exciting learning this week and two weeks ago.
UPDATES
No school tomorrow - Friday, April 3 - Good Friday
Please review and fill out the Human Sexuality form sent home this week
Writing - We are learning how to craft well-organized and detailed paragraphs that include sentences that are very specific and intentional. Ask what we learned about octopuses and how your child organized their paragraph using a TIDE writing template.
Science - We are learning all about MATTER. Not only the three states, but how particles are attracted together, how different solids with different DENSITIES have different BUOYANCY, and how to compare solids with the same VOLUME......yep..there is a lot of vocabulary to learn!
Math - Area and perimeter, metric, and imperial....what is the difference? What is a cm vs. a square cm? Howcome there is a 2 there? Your child "should" be able to grasp the difference between length, width, perimeter and area AND how the units of measurement are shown differently. Ask them about the perimeter and area of their name initials. As well, ask them how to calculate the perimeter and area of rectangles using formulas P = 2L + 2 W and A = L x W.
Finally, here are some photo highlights from before the break.- SHARING SOCIAL STUDIES PRESENTATIONS
- ORAL LANGUAGE - EXPERT STATIONS SHARING
- NEW GAMES IN P.E.
- CELEBRATING AND LEARNING ABOUT EID
Have a wonderful long weekend!
