Learning Highlights!!

Summary:

Students engaged in a variety of learning activities across subjects, including science, social studies, math, writing, and community involvement.

Details:

  • Science: Learning about the digestive system and creating a stop-motion presentation
  • Social Studies: Investigating historical trade routes, including the Silk Road
  • Math: Continuing work on mixed numbers, improper fractions, and adding/subtracting fractions; ratios coming up next
  • Writing: Preparing for poetry writing
  • Community: Participating in a garbage clean-up activity
  • Leadership: Sharing stories with grade 2 buddies, teaching how to use Stop Motion
  • Social Studies / Current Events: Learning about the importance and recognition of Red Dress Day
  • Mother's Day: Gifts for moms!
  • P.E.: Badminton and learning about Mr. Newton's half-marathon

Welcome !  We are so excited to be starting the 2025-2026 school year with you!  This year, our whole school will continue to use Blogger to make regular agenda posts.     To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or iPad, or tablet.  We hope this makes communication between home and school easier and opens great conversations between you and your children .     The CBE and Mrs. Brinson will be communicating information to you through School Messenger email s titled , ‘Northern Lights News for ___ ”. Hello families of grade 5! Important Updates Sept 11 - Terry Fow Fundraising begins Sept 18 - Terry Fox Run Sept 24 - Youthlink Presentation for grade 5 Sept 26 - Orange Shirt Day Sept 29 and 30 - No school Oct 2 - Picture day This is what we got up to this week! Organizing for literacy centers including: BUDDY READING, INDEPENDENT READING, LITERACY GAMES MATH - LEARNING how to build read, write and understand BIG and SMALL numbers up to 1 million (1 000 000) and as small as 1 thousandth (0.001) Please review this with your kids at home. Our next step will be to add and subract numbers within this range. P.E. - Did you know that we have P.E. everyday Monday to Thursday? We continue to work on collaborative team building and following expected routines in the gym with Mr. Newton. Have a wonderful warm weekend.
