🌟 What We’re Learning

  • Mathematics: Students are exploring algebra and building their understanding of key terms such as coefficient, constant, variable, factor, and expression. Ask your child to explain what these terms mean!
  • Science: We have completed our unit on the muscular and skeletal systems, learning how they work together to support movement and structure in the body.
  • Social Studies: We are beginning an exciting unit on ancient civilizations, focusing on how and why civilizations declined.
  • Writing: Students are continuing to develop their poetry anthologies, which they will share with others.
  • Physical Education: Students have wrapped up a gymnastics unit.
  • The Arts: This week, students explored graffiti art using oil pastels and will continue engaging in a variety of creative art projects.
  • Nose Creek Visit! - The choir and band came to share. It was a blast from the past!

📅 Upcoming Events & Reminders

  • Tie-Dye Day (mid-June): Please send a white shirt if you haven’t already (see previous email for details).
  • Expert Stations: Students will be sharing their learning with peers next week—be sure to ask your child what they are preparing!

For next week: Practice all those basic facts as we are reviewing all of them Try to get into the habit of packing healthy and garbage-free lunches Review what the difference is between DISAGREEMENTS, RUDE, MEAN and BULLYING And.... Welcome to Grade 5!

Welcome !  We are so excited to be starting the 2025-2026 school year with you!  This year, our whole school will continue to use Blogger to make regular agenda posts.     To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or iPad, or tablet.  We hope this makes communication between home and school easier and opens great conversations between you and your children .     The CBE and Mrs. Brinson will be communicating information to you through School Messenger email s titled , ‘Northern Lights News for ___ ”. Hello families of grade 5! Important Updates Sept 11 - Terry Fow Fundraising begins Sept 18 - Terry Fox Run Sept 24 - Youthlink Presentation for grade 5 Sept 26 - Orange Shirt Day Sept 29 and 30 - No school Oct 2 - Picture day This is what we got up to this week! Organizing for literacy centers including: BUDDY READING, INDEPENDENT READING, LITERACY GAMES MATH - LEARNING how to build read, write and understand BIG and SMALL numbers up to 1 million (1 000 000) and as small as 1 thousandth (0.001) Please review this with your kids at home. Our next step will be to add and subract numbers within this range. P.E. - Did you know that we have P.E. everyday Monday to Thursday? We continue to work on collaborative team building and following expected routines in the gym with Mr. Newton. Have a wonderful warm weekend.
