Highlights from Grade 5

Sharing Our Voices Through Poetry

Students have been exploring poetry and expressing their thoughts, feelings, and creativity through writing. One of the most exciting parts of this experience was sharing our poems with each other and with our Grade 2 buddies.

This opportunity helped students:

  • Build confidence in reading aloud
  • Practice clear expression and storytelling
  • Connect with younger learners as role models

Sharing poetry with Grade 2 students created a meaningful sense of audience and purpose. Our Grade 5s took pride in their work and enjoyed inspiring younger students with their words.

Creating in 3D: Doodler Pens and Air-Dry Clay

Creativity came to life as students explored 3D art using doodler pens and air-dry clay.

With 3D doodler pens, students experimented with drawing in the air, building structures layer by layer.

Using air-dry clay, students shaped and molded their ideas into unique sculptures. They explored texture, form, and detail while learning how to refine and improve their work.

Becoming Experts in Literacy

During literacy time, students participated in different learning stations focused on reading, writing, and word work. After completing their stations, students took on a new role—experts.

Through expert station presentations, students shared what they learned with their classmates. This helped them:

  • Deepen their understanding of skills and strategies
  • Practice speaking and explaining their thinking
  • Learn from one another in a supportive environment

By teaching others, students strengthened their own learning and built confidence in their abilities.

Final Thoughts
